OVERVIEW
Editing isn’t one size fits all. A lot of independent authors routinely think their manuscript just needs a proofread because they’ve written and revised it at least once. This isn’t how editing works, and I won’t know the type of editing you need until I see a sample of your manuscript that’s at least four pages long, or your whole thing. After I’ve seen your manuscript, and read a few pages in different sections, I can confidently talk about the type of editing you need and explain how I can help.

Writing Coach
I added Writing Coach to my list of services because I love helping writers improve and polish their writing. I love to talk writing with writers and everyone who likes, or wants, to write.
My love of coaching writers comes from my many years of teaching English composition at the college level and from working with individual writers in different genres. As a teacher, I helped students tear down walls and prove to themselves that they could successfully write the semester’s assigned essays. I like doing the same with writers who have stories to tell.

MANUSCRIPT EVALUATION
Manuscript evaluations come at the beginning of the editing process. When I do a manuscript evaluation I look at your entire manuscript and point out the strengths and weaknesses. A manuscript evaluation provides suggestions on how you can fill holes in both fiction and nonfiction.

COPYEDITING
Copyediting comes at the fourth stage of the editing process. It looks at the mechanics of your writing. I’ll read each sentence of your manuscript carefully and seek to fix all errors in spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, consistency, and word usage while preserving your meaning and voice.

PROOFREADING
Proofreading comes at the end of the editing process. You’re ready for proofreading when you have revised your manuscript for the last time and have made all the suggested changes. At this stage, your manuscript is almost ready for publishing.
